I’m really struggling with these timely recaps this week, aren’t I?I can’t leave yesterday’s game unmentioned, though, because it’s this sort of game exactly that makes Andrew McCutchen a special player. He bombed a 450-foot homer, and he also drew three walks, stole two bases, and scored every single time he got on the base paths. Speed? Check. Power? Check.
The Pirates offense has made some pitching staffs look awfully good, especially in the last few weeks, but the Giants’ offense has done the same thing this year and it takes a pretty special effort to strike out nine times in six innings against Jeff Karstens. That happened, though, and so the Pirates come away from the west coast with a series win against the defending champs, knocking them out of first place and making the Padres series seem like it was a million years ago.
The Pirates have finally come to the end of their 20-games-in-20-days stretch. Things look a lot differently at this end.
