The Brooklyn Nets' nightmare start to the 2013-14 season continued this evening in Minneapolis as a shorthanded Nets squad was absolutely destroyed by a Timberwolves team coming off two straight losses. Brooklyn falls to a dismal 3-9 with the loss and is left asking itself the same hard questions it has been throughout its current four-game losing streak.

The Nets were only close in this game for a short time, as Minnesota–lead by the monster backcourt of Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Love–jumped out to a big double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. Brooklyn's only lead came at 2-0, after Kevin Garnett made a jumper on the game's first shot, and Rick Adelman's squad was in control from that point until the fourth quarter ended.

Some other observations I had from the game: I didn't observe much, to be honest…..Mirza Teletovic played pretty well in garbage time, garnering the Nets' only positive +/- and putting up seven points and seven boards……Joe Johnson (15 points), Andray Blatche (16), and Kevin Garnett (eight) all shot efficiently from the field, combining to go 17-for-30. It was nice to see Joe and Kevin make some of their shots, even if they weren't numerous enough to led the Nets to a win……Unfortunately, not everything was rosy, so of course Paul Pierce and Shaun Livingston were both terrible, shooting a collective 2-for-18. Yep, this team has been disappointing so far….Still, though, Jason Terry, Andrei Kirilenko, Brook Lopez, and Deron Williams all missed the game, so Brooklyn was without a lot of its key players. Doesn't excuse the 30-point loss.

Looking Ahead

Brooklyn tries to finally end its prolonged losing skid back at Barclays on Sunday afternoon versus the new-look Detroit Pistons.
