Game 128: Brewers 11 Pirates 4

It’s finally happened. Tonight is the night that the season is so far gone that the Pirates got blown off of the field and I say something like, “Well, that wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been!”

Because really, that game wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. I mean, that seven run second inning was awful, but Ross Ohlendorf didn’t get a lot of help from his fielders that inning and he did give up 11 hits in five innings, but hey, he was really only terrible in one inning and here, I was afraid he’d be terrible in a couple innings and get chased early! 11-4 is bad, but not as bad as it could’ve been when it was 7-0 in the second. His velocity wasn’t great, though, and he didn’t really fool that many hitters, though, so it’s clear that he’s got a long ways to go before he’s even back to where he was in 2009.

On the other side of the ball, hey! Josh Harrison hit a home run! I’m always happy to see players get their first big league homers and Harrison’s no exception. He’s one of the players that’s fun to watch, even when he’s not playing well. The thing is, I feel obligated to point out that he’s now got as many home runs as walks. In some contexts, this could be excellent, or at the very least, not bad. Harrison, though, has 116 plate appearances and just one of each. That is not so great. He’s hit well the last couple days, though, so hopefully this is the start of something good for him.

11-4 is better than 20-0, right?
