This is the time of year when one ugly Pirate loss begins to bleed into the next. The Pirates had one good inning against [Wandy Rodriguez] who was otherwise excellent, striking out [13 … holy crap, thirteen, really?] in [seven] innings of work. That lead was good for a [3-0] lead early on, but it slowly wore away until some questionable defense by [Brandon Wood and Ryan Doumit] lead to a meltdown by [Jose Veras] which culminated in a [three-run home run] by [Carlos Lee]. That deficit turned out to be too much for the Pirates to overcome, even after a [late triple by Ronny Cedeno].
I hate this time of year. I hate not having more interesting things to say after baseball games. I hate turning off my TV in disgust after Carlos Lee pops a little league home run into the stupid 300 foot seats in left field in Houston. This is the time of year I dread as a Pirate blogger and this is the sort game, more than anything, that I hoped we would be able to avoid when the Bucs started the season strong. And yet, here we are again.
I guess I’ll go off and look up some Ross Ohlendorf fastball velocities so that we have something to talk about tomorrow morning.
