Hello dear readers.
It feels like forever since I've been around. You see, there are days when technology fails us and then continues to fail us. In my day job, I work in customer service, and I do so from the comfort and convenience of my own home. Just this past Monday, I completed my shift in time for Monday night's game against Chicago. Within 30 minutes of getting done with work, our modem crashed and has been inoperative since. Now I'm at the mercy of my ISP for when they can work me in. And to make matters worse, I'm now driving 50 miles a day to get to and from work, so it makes an already long day just that much longer. Tuesday cannot come soon enough. Between my job, writing this blog, and wanting to do basic things like pay bills online and check my emails, I've come to appreciate operational internet connections. Thanks to being out of town and staying at my in-laws this weekend, I feel like I've returned to civilization. And of course getting to attend Friday's game was definitely the highlight of the weekend.
I love attending live hockey. Now mind you, our meager budget puts us up in the upper deck, but the truth of the matter is I prefer those seats. While you may be further away from the action, I think you can see a lot more of the game. For example, you can clearly see who isn't moving their feet. Hockey is a fast sport, but when you're up that high, you cab see the deficincies. For example, fans everywhere have been calling for Dany Heatley's head on a silver platter. He's been horribly slow all season. Now no one expected him to be a speed demon, but he came to camp having dropped 20 pounds. At the very least, he should be a little more mobile. However that is not the case. And to add insult to injury to Heatley, I can't tell you how many times I caught him just standing there, not contributing anything to the game. Many fans are asking how he can still be playing, yet Jason Zucker is still in Des Moines. And seeing Heatley play live on Friday, I am definitely asking that question as well.
And speaking of the upper deck, please allow me to give a little lesson in manners. Because of my disability, we sit on the accessible platform at the very top. I have poor balance and arthritis in my ankle that I broke back in 2005, so tackling stairs is not my idea of a good time. Now here comes the lesson in manners. To everyone out there, the platform is a TICKETED SPOT. It is not for you to stand right behind me blabbing on your cell phone, telling off-color jokes to your drinking buddies while pretending you actually know something about hockey yet failing miserably. These are the kinds of people I wished I knew where their seats were so I could go stand behing them and blab about something I know absolutely nothing about. Even worse, our usher last night was useless. All he cared about were the people he knew right by the staircase. He saw the morons standing right behind me being obnoxious and chose to do absolutely nothing about them. If you don't have a ticket for the platform, get off the damn platform. End rant.
So now I'm preparing to return to what is my version of real life. No internet, having to drive to work, and watching the games on television. It's amazing how finally getting to see a live game this season can spoil a person. I don't think I'm quite ready to go back to my version of real life. At least with Dayllight Savings Time ending tonight, at least I get an extra hour of dreamland.
