More truly awful stories from the depths of Pirate fandom:
I was back in lab around 8:30 tonight finishing some work up. I had the audio to the game on both my phone and some lab computers at various points (if I try to load MLB.tv up from more than one computer during the same game it gives me crap and I wanted to be able to watch when I got home) and I knew the Pirates were winning 5-0. I headed down into the basement of the building (bonus for science nerds: to use the Typhoon to scan my Northern blot). When I got the machine going, I put the audio to the game on the computer in the basement. The Pirates were still winning, but it was 5-1 and the Mets had the bases loaded. Within what couldn’t have been more than 5 minutes, it was 7-5 Mets and Maholm was out of the game despite getting at least four outs in an inning that was still nightmarishly unfolding in front of him.
And yeah the Pirates pulled things close and ‘Cutch homered and blah blah blah, but geez, this game went south quicker than I could’ve possibly imagined.
