The Tampa Bay Lightning came out with a truly uninspired performance against the San Jose Sharks on the last game at Amalie Arena before leaving on a five game road trip. Martin Jones made 25 saves to lead the Sharks over the Bolts 3-1 last night.
For the tenth time in 15 games the Lightning gave up the first goal. This one was credited to the Sharks Patrick Marleau after a pileup in front of the net and a goal review. It was Marleau’s fourth of the year from Brent Burns and Paul Martin at 7:18.
The referee initially waved off the goal because of incidental contact between Marleau and Bishop. Video review confirmed the puck crossed the goal line, and after San Jose coach Peter DeBoer challenged the incidental-contact ruling, it was determined that Point, not Marleau, crashed into Bishop.
Just about three minutes later, Tommy Wingels beat Ben Bishop for his third of the year to make it 2-0. Bolts defenseman Braydon Coburn was late getting back off the rush and Wingels was left all alone in the slot. The goal was assisted by Melker Karlsson and Chris Tierney.
The first period ended 2-0 Sharkjs with the Bolts holding a 9-8 lead in shots on goal.
San Jose went up 3-0 on a power play goal by Marc-Edouard Vlasic from the right circle at 8:52 of the second period.. Vlasic’s third goal was assisted by Tomas Hertl and Joonas Donskoi.
Anton Stralman scored the lone Bolts goal at 5:43 of the third period. His first of the season was assisted by Cedric Paquette and Brian Boyle. It was the first goal by a Bolts defenseman not named Victor Hedman this season.
The Lightning outshot the Sharks 26-20 and were 0-2 on the power play.

The Lightning (8-6-1) faceoff next against the New York Islanders on Monday night, November 14th at 7:00 PM. This is the start of a five game road trip.
