It’s weird that I want to celebrate a fourth consecutive win with champagne (OK, maybe just beers) and pure giddiness at the 150 game marker for a club that’s 52-98, right? I mean, I know these wins are meaningless, but for the first time in a while the Pirates seem downright watchable. Jose Tabata came up with some big hits tonight and Paul Maholm kind of looked like Paul Maholm (seven innings, seven hits, no walks, more groundballs than flyballs) for the first time in a while tonight, and that’s how the Pirates extended their current winning streak to four and their winning streak over the Cardinals to three.
Yes, perhaps it’s far too little, far too late, but hey, at least it’s something.
