In the Warriors' November 21st win over the Nets, David Lee scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Nets probably won't win if he does that again tonight |
When: 7:30 pm; Friday, December 7th, 2012
Where: Barclays Center; Brooklyn, NY
TV: YES Network
There are two pieces of information regarding tonight's Nets game that are both really important and really bad for the Nets. The first is that Brook Lopez will miss the game with his nagging foot sprain with a slight silver lining that Reggie Evans might be good to go after his bout with the flu. The second is that their opponent is the Warriors, a team that highlighted the main Nets flaws in the earlier meeting between these two teams on November 21st, a Warrior win in Oakland. In that game, the Nets' major lack of perimeter defense was exploited by Golden State, and Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson especially, who shot 47 percent from three-point range that night, hitting a bunch of crunch-time long-range jumpers that kept Brooklyn from coming back all the way to snatch the lead.
Overall, the Warriors and Nets are very similar teams in a few ways, both roster-wise and early season success-wise. Clearly, both are backcourt-focused sqauds. Golden State is led by Stephen Curry, who runs the point and heads the offense, in addition to shooting guard Klay Thompson, who burned the Nets badly from deep last game. David Lee, a walking double-double and Net-killer, is a nice complement to Curry and Thompson, playing a similar role on the Warriors to Brook Lopez' on Brooklyn. Similarly, the Nets are centered around their own starting 1 and 2, collectively, "Brooklyn's Backcourt" of Deron Williams running the point and Joe Johnson at shooting guard. When hot, they can shoot with any tandem in the NBA, but, as we have seen so far, they couldn't be further from hot right now. Still, Curry and Thompson up against D-Will and Joe will be a beyond interesting duel in tonight's game.
Probable Lineups
GSW- Curry (PG), Thompson (SG), Barnes (SF), Lee (PF), Ezeli (C)
NETS- D-Will (PG), Joe Johnson (SG), Wallace (SF), Humphries (PF), Blatche (C)
Final Thoughts
It would be nice to snap this two-game losing streak in the bud, especially in front of a sure-to-be raucouse Barclays Center crowd. Won't be an easy task to be sure, compounded by Brook's absencem but definitely one within the realm of possibility.
