Game 24: Dodgers 5 Pirates 1

In the first inning of last night’s loss to the Dodgers, Akinori Iwamura walked on five pitches. On a 2-0 pitch to Andy LaRoche, he tried to steal second base and was thrown out. Shortly after, Andrew McCutchen homered.

In the secodd inning, Jeff Clement lead off by staring at a belt-high hanging curveball. Strike three. After Lastings Milledge and Ronny Cedeno were hit by pitches, Iwamura singled into left field with two outs. The hit was a short-hop to Reed Johnson that apparently confused Milledge, who got to third base and just stopped running on a play he should’ve easily scored from second on, given that with two outs he should’ve taken off with the crack of the bat.

It’s hard to win when you so regularly beat yourself.
