Deron Williams spent the first six seasons of his NBA career with the Jazz

Where: Barclays Center; Brooklyn, NY

TV: YES Network

The Nets will try to recover from their tough, one-point loss in Chicago to the Bulls on Saturday night against the Jazz in Brooklyn tonight. Utah will be making their first ever trip to Brooklyn and are riding a little losing skid as of late, dropping consecutive games to the Suns and Grizzlies over the weekend. The Nets will face off against the two main pieces of the trade that brought Deron Williams to the Northeast as Derrick Favors–whom the Nets drafted 3rd overall in 2010–and Enes Kanter–whom the Jazz drafted 3rd overall in 2011, with the pick traded from the Nets–are both key frontcourt players for Utah.

That trade between Utah and the Nets in February of 2011 which dealt the disgruntled D-Will to then New Jersey serves as an immortal link connecting these two franchises. The deal represented a major shift in philosophy for the Nets who, in one fell swoop, transformed themselves from a star-less team with no future to one with one of the premier point guards in the game with a bright, yet somewhat distant, hope of future success. Now, almost two years removed from that trade, the Nets are much closer to their dream of a playoff bid–one to be obtained with much help coming from Deron–that they aspired for when they agreed to send Favors, Devin Harris, and draft picks to the Northwest.

Probable Lineups

UTAH- Mo Williams (PG), Foye (SG), Marv. Williams (SF), Millsap (PF), Jefferson (C)

BKN- D-Will (PG), Johnson (SG), Wallace (SF), Humphries (PF), Lopez (C)

Final Thoughts

As we have seen in the nearly two seasons D-Will has been a Net, he has this insane ability to turn off and on the intensity he plays the game. Obviously, he plays a lot worse when he's coasting through a game than when he's going all-out, but we'll probably see the intense D-Will tonight. That is normally the case with most players when facing their former teams but should be even more relevant tonight for Deron against the Jazz. The somewhat controversial fashion in which he left the team that drafted him will most likely propel him to go all-out tonight. We can hope, at least.
