Highlights:
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Good: Possession Stats
The Jackets from the drop of the puck took the fight to the Islanders, an element that had been missing from the team in recent games. The defense was activating often and you saw it from Bordnarchuk and Connauton, two offensively minded players who looked as if they got the green light. The only player in the negative Corsi-wise at even strength was Nick Foligno, that was it. The leaders as far as generating shot attempts were Atkinson and Wennberg at 78% and 82%, ungodly numbers against any team, let alone a team as good as the Islanders.
The Bad: A turnover
You hate to put the blame on one person but the Campbell turnover really turned the tide of the game. After leading in shots on goal early, the turnover really put them behind the eight ball early. Okposo made no mistake when the puck hit his stick and he put it past McElhinney.
The Ugly: Not getting the result
As much as they outplayed the Islanders this evening, they have to find a way to finish the game. Jenner’s disallowed goal stung but they had plenty of other opportunities. They did everything they could with the situation given to them and will move forward with confidence but the team needed the two points if they want to try to get back into the playoff race.
