Should we talk about how Vance Worley got pounded in his four innings of work today, giving up eight hits and striking out no one? Or about how the defense behind him gave him absolutely no support, to the point that it almost feels ridiculous that anyone could’ve thought an infield with Neil Walker, Jordy Mercer, and (on most nights, though not today) Josh Harrison could be a defensive asset? Or how Aaron Harang, nearly decade past his prime in Cincinnati, just shut the Pirates down by scattering five hits over eight shutout innings, striking out six? Or that six is two more than the number of strikeouts Harang had in his last two starts combined?
Or we could just settle here: it doesn’t take a long look at the Phillies’ lineup, bullpen, or rotation to determine that they’re an affront to competitive baseball in 2015. And the Pirates just split a series with them.
