I didn’t catch last night’s game and so I don’t have much to add about it (now that my committee meeting is over, I’m going to get back to the Electric Meter and we’ll talk more about McDonald when I do that) at the moment, but I did want to note Clint Hurdle’s quote about Miller Park:
“There is a history here, but I’m not a part of that and we’re trying to create new history,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. “Right now, we’re 0-1 at Miller Park this season.”
This is the sort of thing I was talking about in my Pittsburgh Mag piece that’s endeared me to Hurdle despite his penchant for in-game inanity: he’s built his wall around 2011!
I’ll also say that his quotes about the CC Sabathia trade and the time I spent watching Indianapolis have my gears churning a little bit. I probably won’t get a post up about it this weekend, but hopefully I’ll have my thoughts gathered by Monday.
Since I don’t have much else to say early this afternoon, I’m going to toss a bonus link out: Tom from RumBunter, Charlie from Bucs Dugout, and I contributed some quotes and thoughts to The Infield Fly about Jose Bautista. I think it’s interesting how differently the three of us remembered Bautista’s career and the trade that took him out of Pittsburgh. Bautista, meanwhile, has gone into full-on Barry Bonds mode this year if you haven’t noticed and is almost certainly the best hitter in the American League and maybe all of baseball right now. And as I said in the piece linked above, I don’t really think the Pirates did anything wrong with Bautista, but damn, does stuff like this happen to any teams that aren’t the Pirates?
