I’m kind of out of things to say about the Pirates and Miller Park and Milwaukee and the Brewers. It’s like when someone tells you that you can’t do something and you spend a whole bunch of time working hard to prove them wrong and then the time comes and you try and you screw it up and you end up proving their point despite how hard you worked for the opposite.
As I wrote this morning, the Pirates really only needed a win today to salvage a decent series. And then they were down 4-0 before I even had a chance to blink and it was was 6-0 before anyone bothered to think that maybe Kevin Correia didn’t have it today and he shouldn’t left out on the mound. That first inning ended up being the difference, as the Pirates actually got to Zack Greinke in the fifth and then threatened to make some noise against John Axeford in the ninth until Jose Tabata bounced into an game-ending 6-4-3 DP.
And so that’s it. The Pirates came into Milwaukee 18-19 and they’re leaving 18-22. It’s not the end of their season and three games doesn’t definitively prove anything, but it’s awfully discouraing as a fan to see the boulder roll back down the hill again.
It’s almost three months until the Pirates go back to Miller Park. Let’s hope that the next three months are nothing like the last three days.
