Game 40: Pirates 6 Brewers 4

Speaking about this game in a completely subjective fashion, a win like this is more or less exactly why I’m still really interested and kind of optimistic about this current group of Pirate players, despite some of their huge failings in the season’s first six weeks.

The Pirates coughed up leads of 2-0 and 3-2 tonight and after Ryan Doumit fell asleep at the wheel on a passed ball, they suddenly found themselves behind 4-3 in a game that it really felt like they should’ve been winning. At that point, I really thought the Pirates would go into turtle mode and we’d have to hope for a split tomorrow. Instead, they woke up and answered the call with a three-run seventh inning rally to beat a team that, all things considered, they probably should beat right now. It wasn’t the cleanest or most impressive win, but it was a win that they didn’t let slip through their fingers when it easily could’ve. It’s hard to quantify, but I feel like that’s worth something.
