The Nets look to rebound from their uneven effort last night at Barclays in a loss to the Lakers tonight in Detroit against the lowly Pistons. With their trade of Tayshaun Prince to the Grizzlies and acquisition of Jose Calderon in the Rudy Gay deal, the Pistons have completely dismembered their 2004 NBA Champion team as Prince was the last member of the core five to be in Detroit (the others were Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Richard Hamilton, and Chauncey Billups). In return they get the wily veteran Calderon, who has a hefty contract but always manages to have big games against the Nets and is still very good at leading a team.
Most recently, Detroit was clobbered by the Knicks at MSG on Monday night by the score of 99-85. Calderon made his Pistons debut after spending his whole NBA career north of the border with the Raptors, scoring 15 points in 27 minutes. Greg Monroe chipped in with 13 and 10 but those performances weren't enough to keep up with the Knicks, who boasted 27 from Melo, 20 rebounds from Tyson Chandler, and 20 points off the bench for Amare Stoudamire. As the Nets know too well, when the Knicks get hot, there is almost no way to come close to stopping them.
Probable Lineups
BKN- D-Will (PG), Johnson (SG), Wallace (SF), Evans (PF), Lopez (C)
DET- Calderon (PG), Knight (SG), Singler (SF), Maxiell (PF), Monroe (C)
Final Thoughts
The Pistons are 13 games under .500 and are frankly (no pun intended Lawrence) horrendous. They have good young talent in Monroe, Brandon Knight, Andre Drummond, and even Rodney Stuckey, but they don't nearly have the kind of depth and bench presence that should be able to compete with a team of the Nets' ilk. One that most definitely should not be lost tonight by Brooklyn.
