Three things to ponder
1. Track stars
Phoenix’s guard-heavy roster ranks second in the league in fast break points. Without stout defender Darren Collison (hip), Ramon Sessions and the Kings backcourt will have their hands full slowing Goran Dragic and friends.
2. Second unit second to none
Ex-King Isaiah Thomas, former dunk champion Gerald Green, and bigs Brandan Wright and Marcus Morris headline a bench that leads the NBA in scoring. Conversely, the Kings’ reserves rank 26th in points per game surrendered. Now would be as good a time as any for Carl Landry, Derrick Williams or another backup to step up on at least one side of the floor.
3. Karl on the horizon?
Yesterday reports swirled about the Kings and head coach George Karl joining forces. Amid the speculation, Sacramento was blown out by the Utah Jazz for their 11th loss in 12 games. It will be curious to see if the Kings revive their playoff chase now or simply wait for their savior.
