It took the Orlando Magic five games to get their first victory of the 2014-15 NBA season, but since its 0-4 start, Jacque Vaughn’s team–Vaughn is a former Net–has won two games in a row and is looking for a third this afternoon.
Orlando has beaten the woeful 76ers and young Timberwolves in its last two games and heads to Brooklyn today to start a three-game Atlantic Division road trip. Meanwhile, the Nets are coming off a blowout win over the Knicks on Friday night and have won three of four overall, with the only defeat coming at Minnesota’s hands.
For Brooklyn, all cylinders were firing at Barclays two days ago as the Nets simply destroyed their crosstown rivals for four quarters. Deron Williams continued his strong start to the season as he looks completely healthy and dominated strong defender Iman Shumpert in their personal matchup. Joe Johnson, Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic contributed strong performances too.
Probable Lineups
ORL- Elfrid Payton (PG), Evan Fournier (SG), Tobias Harris (SF), Channing Frye (PF), Nikola Vucevic (C)
BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Joe Johnson (SG), Bojan Bogdanovic (SF), Kevin Garnett (PF), Brook Lopez (C)
Final Thoughts
The Magic’s record isn’t great–it’s just 2-4–but they have a lot of young talent with loads of athleticism. Vucevic is a walking double-double; Harris is a really strong scoring wing player; Payton is a rookie with loads of potential as a point guard and Gordon wass the 4th overall pick in the 2014 who can do it all.
Orlando happens to have four New York area natives–Ben Gordon (Westchester), Harris (Long Island), Frye (Westchester), Kyle O’Quinn (Queens) and Maurice Harkless (Queens)–which makes today’s game a little more interesting. Also, stud shooting guard Victor Oladipo isn’t expected to play for the Magic (facial fracture).
