A night after their 105-95 loss to the Clippers on Monday at Staples Center, the Nets take on the arena’s other tenant, the Lakers, on Tuesday. The retiring Kobe Bryant won’t play tonight for former Nets coach Byron Scott’s 11-49 Lakers, who have lost their last eight games and are mired in the Western Conference’s cellar.

Brooklyn actually put up a pretty good fight against the Clippers before falling apart in the fourth quarter with just 16 points (compared to Los Angeles’ 24). Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford presented way too many problems for the Nets’ backcourt of Donald Sloan and Wayne Ellington/Markel Brown, which could also be a problem tonight. The Lakers boast an impressive young pair of guards in D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson who are both athletic play-makers.

Ellington suffered a concussion in yesterday’s game and missed most of the second half, but will be back in the starting lineup this evening.

Probable lineups

BKN- Donald Sloan (PG), Wayne Ellington (SG), Bojan Bogdanovic (SF), Thaddeus Young (PF), Brook Lopez (C)

LAL- D’Angelo Russell (PG), Jordan Clarkson (SG), Anthony Brown (SF), Julius Randle (PF), Roy Hibbert (C)

Final thoughts

Both the Nets and Lakers are bad teams that, at this point of the season, mostly use young players as the Kobe goodbye tour takes another night off with the future Hall-of-Famer on the bench. Expect a lot of turnovers and interesting rotations as Scott and Tony Brown experiment with their limited rosters and various rookies and sophomores. Also, this game happens to be one that the Nets actually have a chance to win as they hit the mid-point of their nine-point road trip.
