Three questions to ponder
1. Who wins the point guard battle between Isaiah Thomas and Kemba Walker?
Thomas and Walker have proven to be two of the top point guards out of the 2011 NBA Draft class. Since the All-Star Break, Thomas has taken the Kings on his shoulders, averaging 17 points and five assists a game while shooting a stellar 49.3 percent from the field. Walker has stepped his play too, scoring 20.3 points on 46.8 percent shooting from the field and 48.4 percent from long range.
2. Will Toney Douglas cut into Jimmer Fredette‘s playing time?
Douglas was the first guard off the Kings’ bench Friday and played approximately six minutes before halftime. Fredette would eventually play, but his opportunity came in the second half. Aaron Brooks may no longer be in the mix, but the Kings still have a glut of options at guard. Once again, Keith Smart could see a match-up that he believes favors Douglas today, which could leave Fredette as the odd-man out.
3. Can John Salmons find his scoring touch?
In three of the Kings’ five games on the road, Salmons was a revelation. Before Friday’s loss against the San Antonio Spurs, Salmons had averaged 18 points per game in his previous three outings. Production from beyond the arc may be critical to his success today. In his last four games, the 33-year-old veteran is shooting 77.8 percent from 3-point land on 14-of-18 attempts.
