Instead of lingering on all of the things that have gone wrong for the Pirates over the last three days, sometimes it’s easier just to say this: James McDonald starts on Friday. AJ Burnett starts on Saturday. The Pirates are getting out of Baltimore. Things feel bleak right now, but we’re only a few days removed from everyone’s personal high point on the season. If the Pirates’ two best pitchers turn in good performances, maybe we’re only a couple of days removed from getting back in that direction.
Maybe that’s unnecessarily hopeful, but Thursday was a pretty rough day for the Pirates. Let’s hope they can pull out of this before they start into another 2011 tailspin.
