In a game that was never really in doubt, the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 6-3. They were led by David Savard who had two goals on the evening. Let us dive into the numbers.
Highlights:
Good, Better, Best
Good: Brandon Saad
Although he was injured fairly early in the game, it was still a very good game for Saad. He ended the game with only an assist but it seemed like he was toying with the Oilers at times. The injury he suffered during the game was described as an upper body injury. Regardless of the severity of the injury it has been an absolute joy watching Saad play on the Blue Jackets this year. I, for one, am quite happy we get to enjoy his play for years to come.
Better: David Savard
It has been nice to see Savard, make his way back into the lineup. Even though he only had one goal on the season, no one was expecting him to repeat the type of season he had last year. This past evening he decided to show Blue Jackets fans what he can do with the puck by netting two goals. Both were absolute snipes and were very high on the difficulty scale. He has settled into a top four role quite well after being pushed down from the top pairing. It is a spot that suits him and his skill level.
Best: Scott Hartnell
It seems like every single player on this list I have been ranting and raving about. Well guess what? This section isn’t going to be any different. Hartnell, who had his name talked about often around the deadline could not have been happier that February 29th has passed. Finally, he could avoid the questions and play his game. His game happens to be the point leader on the Columbus Blue Jackets. He padded his lead with two points on the evening. It can’t be denied that Hartnell is an aging asset but if he keeps turning out seasons like this, watch out.
