In the first two innings tonight, the Orioles reached base on their first nine balls put into play. That’s not good at all; it’s both bad luck for the pitcher and a recipe for a big deficit and a short night. This start for Charlie Morton was all of those things. I don’t really have much else to say.
I will note that one day after using his best defensive outfielder as a DH, but refusing to use his closer in the late innings of a tie ball game, Clint Hurdle used Joel Hanrahan in the ninth inning with a five-run deficit. No comment.
