After a five-game winning streak coming against five different non-contending teams, the Houston Rockets were riding pretty high, as they were a season-best 27 games over .500. Then, Dwight Howard hurt his ankle (and is out for a little more than a week) and Patrick Beverley tore a meniscus in his knee, and won’t be back until the playoffs in all likelihood.

Oh, and they also got beat down by the Clippers a few nights ago.

Now, Houston comes into Brooklyn to take on the Nets as a battered and bruised team looking to right the ship after an iffy performance against LA. The Nets have their own injury problems, as both Kevin Garnett (back) and Andrei Kirilenko (ankle) are out again as they continue extended absences.

Brooklyn is attempting to win its 14th straight home game, a streak which would become the NBA’s season-high should it be extended tonight as the Thunder had their own 13-game winning streak earlier in the year.

Probable Lineups

HOU- Jeremy Lin (PG), James Harden (SG), Chandler Parsons (SF), Terrence Jones (PF), Omer Asik (C)

BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Shaun Livingston (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Paul Pierce (PF), Mason Plumlee (C)

Final Thoughts

The Bulls beat the Celtics last night, and the Raptors lost to the Heat, but both Chicago and Toronto are idle on Tuesday, so the Nets are currently two games behind both of them. If they win, the Nets will creep up to just 1.5 games back of the No. 3 and No. 4 slots in the East, and with eight games remaining after tonight, it would be a longshot but not an impossibility.
