Whenever the Knicks and Nets play, it’s usually exciting. But now that the Knicks are only one game behind the No. 8 seed Atlanta Hawks for the Eastern Conference’s final playoff berth, tonight’s meeting–the third of four between the teams this season–holds much more intrigue.
The season series is split with one win apiece for both teams, as each destroyed the other on their opponents’ home floor. Manhattan went into the Barclays Center on December 5th and routed the Nets by 30. Then, on January 20th, Dr. Martin Luther Jr. Day, the Nets returned the favor at The World’s Most Famous Arena.
Brooklyn, winners of three straight after their 14th straight home win last night against the Rockets, their first against Houston in 14 tries, look to keep the good times rolling against a streaking Knicks team coming off a successful 3-2 Western Conference road trip.
Probable Lineups
BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Shaun Livingston (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Paul Pierce (PF), Mason Plumlee (C)
NYK- Raymond Felton (PG), J.R. Smith (SG), Iman Shumpert (SF), Carmelo Anthony (PF), Tyson Chandler (C)
Final Thoughts
Marcus Thornton, who has missed the last few games with a bruised back, is set to return for the Nets. If Brooklyn wins and the Raptors and Bulls lose their respective games tonight, the Nets will be just a half game behind both the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the East.
