The book on the Lakers:  The Lakers are losers of four of their last five games.  Not good timing considering they’re in a tight race for a final spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.  In that span, they’ve posted a net offensive/defensive rating of -8.2.

Did you know?  Kobe Bryant is four points away from passing Wilt Chamberlain for fourth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Status Updates: James Johnson continues to be away from the team dealing with personal matters.

Three questions to ponder

1.  Health-wise, kind of shape will Kobe Bryant be?

The aches and pains are piling up on Bryant here in the Lakers’ stretch run.  According to reports, Bryant has a bone spur in his left foot that was evaluated by a foot specialist yesterday afternoon.  This latest bit of health news for Bryant comes on the heels of that severe ankle sprain he suffered against the Atlanta Hawks a few weeks ago.  The future Hall of Famer has rarely let injuries deter him for dominating on the court and he is a go for tonight’s game according to Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni.

2.  Over or under 10-made threes for the Kings tonight?

Since the All-Star Break, the Kings are averaging 10-made threes a game.  Sacramento has also shot the ball extraordinarily well, shooting 40.3 percent from distance.  The Lakers are decent at best when it comes to defending the three ball.  Los Angeles is ranked 17th in three-point defense, holding opponents to just about 36 percent from behind the arc.

3.  Over or under 23 assists for the Kings tonight?

Sacramento has dished out 20 or more assists in 17 of their last 19 games.  Since the All-Star Break, they’ve averaged 23.7 assists per contest.  Their offense has become more lethal as a result and they’ve finally started playing like the team most thought they could be before the season.
