Offense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Sean Maguire, QB
Dalvin Cook and Kermit Whitfield each had outstanding days for Florida State on Saturday, but it was redshirt junior Sean Maguire who calmed the early storm. Maguire replaced starter Everett Golson with FSU trailing 17-7 after Golson committed three first half turnovers. Maguire finished the day 18-for-28 passing for 231 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to Whitfield. Maguire was intercepted once, but led the Seminoles on scoring drives on each of his four possessions.
Clint Eiland and Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Dalvin Cook, RB
Sophomore running back Dalvin Cook had another outstanding day rushing with 138 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Cook scored FSU’s first two touchdowns on runs of 14 and 30 yards. On his third carry of the day, Cook gained 11 yards to eclipse Warrick Dunn’s single-season FSU rushing record set in 1995.
Defense
Unanimous Game Ball: Derwin James, S
Freshman Derwin James continued to shine for Florida State on Saturday, finishing with a game-high 10 total tackles, including a sack. James also had a fumble recovery which led to a FSU touchdown early in the second half.
Special Teams
Unanimous Game Ball: Roberto Aguayo, K
Florida State junior kicker Roberto Aguayo was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goal attempts on Saturday. Aguayo’s 40-yard make late in the first half tied the game at 17 and his 26-yard field goal early in the third quarter put FSU ahead for good. Five of Aguayo’s seven kickoffs went for touchbacks.
