The winning streak for Florida State hit 22 games on Saturday as the top-ranked Seminoles defeated Syracuse 38-20 in their first trip to the Carrier Dome in a decade. The victory keeps FSU perfect for what will certainly be a top 5 match-up with Notre Dame in Tallahassee next weekend. As the #1 team in the land turns its attention to the Fighting Irish, the Noled Out staff hands out game balls for Saturday’s ACC victory:
Offense
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Jameis Winston, QB
Amidst more controversy, Florida State sophomore quarterback Jameis Winston had perhaps his best game of 2014. Winston complete 83 percent of his passes, going 30-for-36 for 317 yards and three touchdowns. Winston did not commit a turnover for the first time in ACC play and led FSU to 29 first downs.
Defense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Nate Andrews, S
Sophomore Nate Andrews recorded six tackles on Saturday and was one of three Florida State safeties to grab an interception. The pick for Andrews was his second this season, which has the reserve defensive back on pace to lead the team in that category for a second straight season,
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Eddie Goldman, DT
Junior defensive tackle Eddie Goldman continued to be a load on the inside for the Florida State defensive front. Goldman was one of five Seminoles to record a tackle for loss and finished with five total stops, which led all defensive linemen on Saturday.
Special Teams
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Cason Beatty, P
On what was a quiet day for standout kicker Roberto Aguayo, Cason Beatty had perhaps his best game of the season, averaging 46 yards-per-punt, a season-best, on two kicks. Beatty had a 48-yard punt which was downed inside the 20. Neither of his punts were returned.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Roberto Aguayo, K
Roberto Aguayo remained perfect on the season, connecting on his only field goal attempt and making all five extra points. Aguayo’s field goal came from 34 yards out, making him 13-for-13 on the year. Aguayo also had four kickoffs go for touchbacks.
