Game Balls: FSU-Virginia

afterseason

It again was not pretty, but Florida State overcame an early turnover bug to top Virginia 34-20 and improve to 9-0 on the year. FSU can clinch a third straight trip to the ACC Championship with wins in either of its next two games following Saturday’s victory.

Saturday night was not the Seminoles’ most promising performance, but Florida State remains one of three remaining undefeated teams in the country. As second-ranked FSU gets ready to face rival Miami, the Noled Out staff hands out game balls for Florida State’s 25th consecutive victory on Saturday.

Offense
Mike Ferguson and Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Rashad Greene, WR

Senior wide receiver Rashad Greene had 13 of Florida State’s 22 receptions on Saturday, finishing with 136 yards receiving and a touchdown. Greene is now just 11 yards shy of hitting the 1,000-yard mark for a second straight season. Greene sits just 145 yards short of Ron Sellers for the school’s career mark for receiving yards.

Defense
Mike Ferguson and Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Mario Edwards Jr., DE

Junior defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. had perhaps his finest game as a Seminole on Saturday night. Edwards forced a fumble on Virginia’s first offensive play of the game before finishing the night with game-high nine tackles, four for loss, and a sack in the victory.

Special Teams
Mike Ferguson and Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Cason Beatty, P

Florida State punter Cason Beatty was solid for a second straight week, averaging 48.5 yards-per-punt on four punts including a career-long 67-yard kick early in the second quarter. The career-long punt would pin Virginia deep and set up a Terrance Smith interception on the first play of the ensuing Cavaliers’ drive.
