Game Balls: FSU-Wake Forest

Top-ranked Florida State overcame a slow start on Saturday to pound Wake Forest 43-3. The Seminoles improved to 5-0 on the season and earned head coach Jimbo Fisher the 50th victory of his career. With a trip to Upstate New York to face Syracuse looming, the Noled Out staff hands out its game balls for Saturday’s victory.

Offense
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Mario Pender, RB

Florida State put forward another solid rushing effort Saturday, finishing with 171 yards on the ground. Leading the way for the Seminoles was sophomore Mario Pender, who finished with a team-high 70 yards rushing on just five carries. Pender had a long of 56 yards for the day and scored his third touchdown of the season. Pender also had two catches for 14 yards.

Defense
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Mario Edwards Jr., DE

After missing last week with a concussion, junior defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. made his presence felt on Saturday. Edwards finished with five stops — three of which went for a loss. Edwards also had Florida State’s only sack, which resulted in a fumble for the first of three Wake Forest turnovers on the day.

Special Teams
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Roberto Aguayo, K

Redshirt sophomore kicker Roberto Aguayo had a career-day on Saturday, making good on each of his five field goal attempts. Four of Aguayo’s makes were from at least 40 yards out which included a season-long 52-yard field goal early in the third quarter. Aguayo is now a perfect 12-for-12 this season on field goal attempts and 28-for-29 for his career. The reigning Lou Groza Award winner also made each of his four extra point attempts and finished with 19 points on the day.
