Game Balls: Spring Game

florida state seminoles

Florida State’s annual spring game was held on Saturday with the Garnet topping the Gold, 31-14. Unfortunately for Seminole fans, Saturday’s contest will serve as the last chance to see their team in action until August 30th against Oklahoma State in Dallas. As will become customary during the 2014 season, the Noled Out staff gives their game balls for Saturday’s spring game.

Offense
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Sean Maguire, QB

Though Gold quarterback Sean Maguire didn’t put up the yardage numbers that reigning Heisman winner Jameis Winston did on Saturday, Maguire was the sharpest of the three Florida State quarterbacks to see action and the most consistent. Maguire completed 15 of his 28 pass attempts for 203 yards including a 27-yard touchdown strike to Rashad Gholston to open the scoring. While Maguire was not as sharp in the second half, he looks to be more than capable of running Jimbo Fisher’s offense.

Defense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Ro’Derrick Hoskins, LB

After being redshirted last season, Ro’Derrick Hoskins looked ready to take on a bigger role in 2014. For the Garnet on Saturday, Hoskins had a pair of sacks and a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown at the end of the first half.

Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: E.J. Levenberry, LB
While the entire corps of linebackers looked solid for Florida State, redshirt sophomore E.J. Levenberry did his part to stand out. Levenberry seemed to have a nose for the football recording eight total tackles for a Garnet squad that held the Gold to just four net yards rushing.

Special Teams
Mike Ferguson & Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: N/A

With nothing doing in the return game, it was hard to award a game ball for Saturday’s spring game. That of course, will all change come Fall.
