Counting down to the Angels’ game against the Rangers in which two new aces get set for a showdown.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (18-22) @ Texas Rangers (21-18)
Game Starters: LAA – Jered Weaver (4-2, 4.27 ERA) TEX – C.J. Wilson (3-1, 1.48 ERA)
Game Info: 5:05 PM PT TV-Fox Sports West; Radio-ESPN Radio, KLAA 830 AM, KWKW 1330 AM
5. Can the Angels be the ones to solve C.J. Wilson? Wilson has been a revelation in the rotation for the Rangers, sporting a 1.48 ERA and comes into the game having allowed just five runs in his last five starts. Seeing how the Halos aren’t exactly swinging hot bats of late, this could get ugly for them.
4. Good thing though the Angels have Jered Weaver on the bump tonight. He may have a lifetime record of 1-3 in Arlington, but he still has a pretty respectable ERA and WHIP when facing the Rangers there. Heck, with the way he has been pitching this year, you can probably throw history out the window entirely. This is Jered Weaver the ace and all bets are off for him now.
3. Hideki Matsui better not play tonight. C.J. Wilson has been death on lefties this season (.210 OPS allowed) and Godzilla has lost “everyday player” privileges until further notice. This seems like and ideal opportunity to get Bobby Wilson back in the fold with Mike Napoli stepping in to DH.
2. Mike Scioscia may not be watching the standings, but I am. Getting a win tonight and getting back with 2.5 games rather than 4.5 may not seem like a lot right now, but it could be a big difference at the end of the year. Let’s face it, the Halos aren’t about to catch fire on run away with the division anytime soon, so any wins they can get against the Rangers now are going to be just as important as the ones they’ll get in September. Since the Angels don’t see Texas again until the end of June, a win tonight will at least keep the pressure on Texas until they meet again.
1. What the eff is with the Rangers wearing their red alternate uniforms every single time they play the Angels? Red is the Angels’ color. They own it, quit trying to steal our mojo. I don’t know, maybe Texas thinks they can tweak the Halos somehow by always wearing their colors? I am worked up over it, but I really doubt the Angel players are. If anything, it smacks of just being lame ass copycats so that they can act like they are the cool kids in the division now. Tell you what, Rangers. Whoever wins the division gets to wear the red unis, deal? Until then, stick to your crappy blue threads.
