5. This might be the most important game of the year so far for the Angels. They are on the verge of falling into a huge downward spiral after getting clobbered 17-8 last night and have to once again face all their Fenway Park demons. A win tonight would restore order to their universe, but a loss, especially a bad one, is going to result in the team facing a number of questions that they likely won’t have the answers to.
4. The Angels are mired in their second four-game losing streak of the season already and staring lost number five right in the face. Last season, they only lost four in a row just once and that came in late September and was their longest losing streak of the year.
3. Now would be a great time for Ervin Santana to finally break through. He started the season slow but has been steadily improving in his last few starts. If he can just avoid the one bad inning that has been plaguing him lately, the Angels have a good shot at winning this one.
2. Will their be anymore line-up juggling tonight? We saw Morales and Matsui switch spots last night, but maybe something more drastic is needed tonight. I wouldn’t mind seeing Reggie Willits get a shot at spelling the slumping Juan Rivera for awhile to see if he can’t use his speed and patience to inject a little life into the line-up.
1. Can the Angels fix their running game tonight? They inexplicably couldn’t run on Victor Martinez last night, but they are going to have to resolve that ASAP, if this anemic offense is ever going to get going, it is going to be via the basepaths and they just aren’t getting the job done right now, not by a long shot.
