If you thought last night’s game was wild, just wait until tonight with both the Rays and the Angels running out starting pitchers who are both wildly talented and wildly erratic.

Ervin SantanaDavid Price

Who’s more erratic?  You make the call!

For all we know both players could be on top of their game tonight and give us an epic pitcher’s duel, but both could just as easily turn this game into Home Run Derby.  Fasten your seat belts, Angel fans!

THREE Questions:

  • Can Santana step up?  While Santana has been erratic throughout his career, he’s been strongly leaning towards the bad side of things lately.  With Saunders out and two rookies in the rotation, the Angels desperately need him to be that third reliable member of the starting staff.
  • Should we be concerned about Brian Fuentes?  I originally thought his meltdown versus Cleveland was a fluke but that near home run by Zobrist last night has me living in fear of another save situation arising tonight.
  • Can the Angels get Chone Figgins going?  It is no coincidence that the Angels started stumbling during a stretch that Figgy is slumping (1 hit in his last 20 at-bats) as well.  Abreu, Hunter and Morales get all the credit for powering the Angels, but the truth of the matter is the Halos go as Figgins goes.

TWO Predictions:

  • With Kevin Jepsen burnt from going two innings last night, Jose Arredondo gets called upon to pitch in a crucial situation and shuts the door in dominating fashion.
  • Not only will Vladimir Guerrero go yard again tonight, but he will finally club the first Angel grand slam of the year.

ONE Wish:

  • I wish to see Ervin Santana hit 97 mph on the radar gun in the seventh inning.  With all the speculation about the injury to Joe Saunders, there should be much more concern over Santana’s health given his diminished velocity most of the season.

ZERO Tolerance for… the Rays stealing another base off a freaking pitchout!  This is why Mike Scioscia feels compelled to regularly rotate Jeff Mathis for Mike Napoli’s power bat.
