Game Countdown – 9/17/09: Just Get Out of Here – Angels @ Red Sox

I am dead serious when I say this, but the Angels should just get the hell out of Boston and sacrifice this game.  No good can possibly come from suffering through another Angel game in Fenway.  They don’t need to forfeit or anything, but why not just start all the scrubs and have the regulars take an early flight to Arlington just so they have a day to get last night’s devastating loss out of their heads.  Here is the proposed line-up.

  1. Reggie Willits, LF
  2. Gary Matthews, CF
  3. Howie Kendrick, 2B
  4. Brandon Wood, SS
  5. Robb Quinlan, 1B
  6. Terry Evans, RF
  7. Freddy Sandoval, 3B
  8. Bobby Wilson, C
  9. Chris Pettit, DH

Have Sean O’Sullivan start the game and let Trevor Bell, Rich Thompson and Rafael Rodriguez perform whatever relief work is necessary.  Everyone else leaves early for Texas.  If the team loses, which they will, then it doesn’t really hurt because that team shouldn’t win.  At least it won’t due further damage to what remains of the Angels’ confidence against Boston, assuming there is any left.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (86-59) @ Boston Red Sox (86-58)

Starters: LAA – Ervin Santana (7-8, 5.52 ERA)  BOS – Josh Beckett (15-6, 3.82 ERA)

Game Info: 4:10 PM PT TV-Fox Sports West & MLB Network, Radio-KLAA 830 AM, KFWB, KWKW 1330 AM

THREE Questions:

  • What did the Angels do to deserve this Fenway curse?  Please, someone tell me because I am willing to do whatever is necessary to make things right.
  • Why is Juan River playing?  I don’t think he should be after dogging it on the game-winning blooper last night and I am mildly upset with Scioscia for not making an example of him in some way.
  • Not that the Angels will have a lead to protect, but if they do, will Scioscia dare let Brian Fuentes go for the save again?

TWO Predictions:

  • The Angels finally buckle down defensively and don’t make a single error, but it won’t matter as the Red Sox will score more than enough earned runs to get the win.
  • Vladimir Guerrero is out of the line-up today but will be back for the first game of the Rangers series.

ONE Wish:

  • I wish for just win to close out this series.  Obviously the Halos aren’t going to start just the scrubs, but the idea of them needing something good to build on remains valid.  A win tonight over Josh Beckett would be a big positive for the entire clubhouse.

ZERO Tolerance for… any more games in Fenway.  I just can’t take it and I legitimately don’t know if I can bring myself to watch tonight’s game.
