Niko’s Intro
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers do not have a great history facing off against the San Francisco 49ers. In fact, to be honest, the 49ers and Bucs have been polar opposites for most of their time in the league, especially from 1983-1997. During those years, the Bucs had a double digit loss season every year. The 49ers, had double digit WINNING seasons each year. The Bucs could not win a road game; the 49ers could not lose them. The Bucs changed all that in 1997, and launced their new era with a win over the 49ers at home. But up until last year, the Bucs still cound not beat San Francisco until lo and behold, the Bucs under Raheem Morris finally beat the 49ers IN San Francsico 21-0 for the first win there since 1980.
Now the team will try to do the unthinkable, win TWO games in a row In San Francisco, and the team they are facing is once again just like them. Last year the 49ers were an improving team that had won a bunch of games in a row. This season the Bucs and 49ers are both 3-1. Which one will give? It’s definitly dont miss football today at 4pm! GO BUCS!
All-Time Series
The Buccaneers have won four of the last seven meetings in the series, including a 31-6 playoff victory in Tampa following the 2002 season. San Francisco holds a big advantage in the all-time series, winning 15 of the 19 regular season meetings. Tampa Bay’s first road win was a 24-23 victory at Candlestick Park in 1980. Last season, the Buccaneers gained their second road victory, as they were able to shut out the 49ers for the first time in the series with a 21-0 victory in San Francisco. It was also the first time since October 9, 1977, that the 49ers had been shut out at home. The other two Buccaneers regular season win’s against San Francisco came in a 13-6 vic- tory in the 1997 season opener at Houlihan’s Stadium and a 35-3 win at Ray- mond James in 2004. The Buccaneers captured the lone postseason meeting with the 31-6 win in a 2002 NFC Divisional playoff game on the way to their first Super Bowl title.

LAST MEETING
Tampa Bay 21, San Francisco 0 (Nov. 21, 2010) SAN FRANCISCO – In a day marked by big plays from Tampa Bay, the visiting Buccaneers shut out San Francisco 21-0 in Candlestick Park for the first victory over the 49ers in California since 1980 and the first home shut-out for San Francisco since 1977. With both offenses starting slowly, it was the Bucca- neers defense that made its presence known early. The unit kept the pressure consistently, finishing the day with six sacks and two forced turnovers, includ- ing a LB Geno Hayes forced fumble on San Francis- co’s first possession that was recovered by LB Adam Hayward. The Buccaneers put up their first points of the day with an 80-yard drive that extended from the end of the first quarter and into the second, with QB Josh Freeman and RB LeGarrette Blount leading the way to set up a six-yard rushing score by RB Carnell Williams. That would be the only score of the first half, leaving Tampa Bay up 7-0 heading into the break. In the third quarter, the 49ers punted away their first possession, and the Buccaneers then set themselves up to score, driving from their own six-yard line to the San Francisco 23. However, K Connor Barth’s attempt went wide left and the 49ers retook possession. But San Francisco was unable to convert, thanks in part to a sack by LB Adam Hay- ward to set up a third-and-eleven situation for the home team, and, on the ensuing possession, Tampa Bay would not be denied the end zone. WR Mike Wil- liams nabbed a 33-yard pass from Freeman on the first play of the drive, which was quickly followed by a 16-yard sprint up the middle by Blount to bring the ball deep into 49ers territory. Williams stepped up again three plays later, bringing down an eight-yard strike to put the Buccaneers at a 14-0 advantage. The momentum continued to swing in Tampa Bay’s favor in the fourth quarter, as CB Ronde Barber inter- cepted a Smith pass, which marked his 40th career pick and made him the first player in NFL history to have recorded 40 or more interceptions and 25.0 or more sacks in his career. Barber’s pick paved the way for another Buccaneers score—this time by T Donald Penn, who, after reporting eligible on third- and-one from the San Francisco one-yard line, broke away to snag Freeman’s pass for the touchdown. Tampa Bay’s defense continued to perform admira- bly, sacking Smith three times in the final eight min- utes of the game, while preventing the 49ers offense from putting any points on the board. After the final sack on fourth-and-two, the Buccaneers took over on downs with 0:38 on the clock.
