In one of their most lackluster and disappointing losses of an already loss-filled season, the Brooklyn got crushed 120-95 in Boston by the upstart Celtics two days ago. Today, in an early Sunday night tip, the Celtics are at the Barclays Center as they try to steal both ends of a home-and-home with the Nets, who are looking for answers to their myriad of problems.

Brooklyn actually didn’t start Friday’s night debacle that poorly, as the Celtics only led 23-19 after the first quarter. But, it all got away from the Nets in the second quarter, inwhich Boston scored a ridiculous 43 points, outscoring Brooklyn by 20. Lionel Hollins’ second unit didn’t even come close to contesting most of the Celtics’ shots, especially from beyond the arc, where Boston made five triples in the frame. Isaiah Thomas and his speed at getting to the basket were also too much for the slow and lifeless Nets.

Down 66-42 at halftime, the Nets were assured a loss before the third or fourth quarters even started and they would never mount any form of resistance or comeback. It was a pretty disheartening way for the indifferent Nets to get smoked by a division rival who holds their first round pick for the next three seasons. I’ve thrown around rock bottom often with this team lately, with good reason, but Friday had to be pretty close to it.

Probable lineups

BOS- Isaiah Thomas (PG), Avery Bradley (SG), Jae Crowder (SF), Amir Johnson (PF), Jared Sullinger (C)

BKN- Jarrett Jack (PG), Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Thaddeus Young (PF), Brook Lopez (C)

Final thoughts

You’d like to think that just two days after getting crushed and demoralized by a in-division foe, the Nets would be hungry for revenge tonight. Maybe that increased energy and intensity could lead to a better basketball performance for the woeful Brooklyn side and, possibly, the players start actually defending their opponents. Not saying it’s going to happen, I’m saying it could be possible.
