I have come to believe that the Freeway Series brings out the wacky in both teams. This is the series that, during it’s inaugural pairing, saw Chan Ho Park ninja kick Tim Belcher. You match that with the Weaver No Hitter Loss and all the weirdness of last night’s baserunning blunderrama and you get something completely unique to baseball. So what do we expect to see today…who the heck knows, but it won’t be boring.
Monkey See, Monkey Do Expect the Angels offense to meet with a loud thud. Kuroda has been really good this year and the victim of what will from now on be known as Haren’s Disease (an acute lack of run support for a quality pitcher). I can’t imagine the Halos line-up pounding out 8 runs like last night. Having said that, I would expect Vernon Wells to continue his meteroic rise up from .200 as he collects a couple more hits today.
Monkey See, Monkey Don’t Expect the good Tyler Chatwood to show up today. Chatwood alternates good and bad outings, so my money is on an early game struggle type of performance. I could see him giving up a few runs early then hanging around for 5 or 6 innings. Chatwood has to iron out these issues since there is nothing on the horizon as far as rotation help (especially if Ervin Santana continues to crap the bed every fifth day).
The Monkey’s Bananas Prediction of the Day Given that the game is on Big Fox, we will be treated to announcers who know nothing about the teams and speak in vague generalities about this guy being a “gamer” and that guy being “a real ballplayer”. I also expect the Dodgers to take this one since it seems impossible for the Angels to actually spend any time at .500. I would also hope that someone told Jeff Mathis to throw to second when a runner steals a base, just in case he has forgotten.
