In a bit of a back and forth affair, the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the New Jersey Devils by a score of 2-1. For the Jackets and their fans the evening was a night to “woo” over.
Highlights:
Three stars of the game (per NHL dot com)
1. Matt Calvert
Truly the first star on the evening for the Jackets. Calvert was moving all over the ice and made plays when he had the opportunity. His even strength CF% this evening was 56.52%, good for second among forwards after Kerby Rychel. His goal was a product of the hard work that his line seemingly maintained all night long. His penalty killing ability can’t be understated either as he was swarming all night long and found himself eating up valuable time with the puck when called upon.
2. Adam Henrique
Henrique led all Devils forwards with 21:31 of ice time and had a good but not great evening by his recent standards. He found himself mostly in the right place at the right time and was the beneficiary of a great pass from Mike Cammalleri to score the lone Devil goal of the game.
3. William Karlsson
Luck has a funny way of bouncing back, huh? Karlsson was a tad snake-bitten to start the season and seems to be coming into his own as his scoring touch is coming back. The Swede is now carrying a shooting percentage of 10.3% which is a nice rate for a player considered to be more of a defensive specialist. Karlsson’s development may be the best part of the early portion of this season as he has cemented his spot on the third line.
