Game Recap 8/13/12: Forward Progress? – Indians 6 Angels 2

Well hey, the Angels are getting pretty close to rock bottom so it’s not like there’s anywhere to go but up for them, right? Today seemed to be a step in the right direction even though it may not have seemed that way to you guys. PATIENCE, even when you’re climbing out of the toilet you’re still going to see a lot of crap on the way up.

While this game was undoubtedly full of it there was still progress made in the right direction being made, that being C.J Wilson. I know it’s hard to see but if you try real hard and squint a little bit you might be able to see some light through all the fog…

Even if the fog looks like it’s straight out of a classic “Stephen-King-novel-turned-mediocre-Hollywood-remake”.

Game Recap

  • I’ll just jump straight to C.J Wilson so you guys won’t sit there scratching your heads wondering what traumatic brain injury I suffered to make me think there would be a such thing as…..*gasp*…… a bright side in another painful Halo loss. The recent losing streak has looked bad, or dare I say…collapse-a-riffic? I think that’s what I wanted to go for but I’m not too sure about that one. A lot of people are freaking out on Twitter, and c’mon now. This isn’t going to be another April collapse, it’s obvious the only thing still bother the Angels is the pain and pressure from the series in Texas. The biggest concern since then, and pretty much the whole season, has been the starting pitching. Well guess what, a guy not named Jered Weaver FINALLY pitched into the 7th inning while putting up a good start. C.J Wilson probably would have pitching 7 innings of 3 run ball if he hadn’t stupidly try to grab a line drive with his pitching hand, which we’ve all witnessed to be a pretty terrible habit of his. The offense kept C.J from getting comfortable, and even then he still struck out 5 while only walking 1 en route to a loss. Maybe if it wasn’t for the bullpen…..
  • Give me one more quick second while the rage simmers down.
  • and…….
  • TAKAHASHIIIIII!!! He couldn’t even get himself a single out before being pulled!!!! This is just way too perfect of this bullpen…their M.O practically the entire season has been destroying, or should I say ravaging, nearly every hard fought lead the Angels get themselves. Even when it’s massive leads, like “No way the pitching can blow this one” big! As soon as Albert Pujols hits an incredibly uplifting 2-run homer that brings the Angels within one run of the game Takahashi and literally, and I mean literally in an incredible literal sense of the words, rips off his pants and drops a big steamer right on the mound. That’s the exact picture that was oh so elegantly painted for me while scanning through the Twitters and the Interwebs during the fateful inning. Don’t call this one a bullpen loss, this was a classic Takahashi pooper. Hawkins and Isringhausen, aside by the lone walk allowed by Izzy, pitched almost masterfully.
  • Oh hey yeah, between all that much back there I did mention Albert Pujols hitting a clutch 2-run bomb which was pretty much the only thing the offense did tonight aside from Kendrick and Callaspo’s 2 hit game and Trout’s 1 hit and 1 run scored night. You can pretty much kiss the division goodbye, though the Angels are just 2.5 games back in the Wild Card behind Detriot, Tampa Bay, Baltimore and Oakland. Besides the Rays win tonight, their 7th in a row, and the Orioles win the rest of the teams made up no ground with Detroit losing and Oakland not playing. The way the Angels team is built they can turn around on a dime and burn their way back to the top of the Wild Card, which is something they’ve already proven they can do earlier this season. A small early August collapse is better than a September collapse, still plenty of time to get back up and make up ground.
