Brian Boyle and Alex Killorn each scored two goals, while Victor Hedman and Valtteri Filppula each had three assists in the Bolts’ 6-3 win on the road against the Calgary Flames. Ben Bishop made 19 saves to help the Tampa Bay Lightning win. Braydon Coburn and Andrej Sustr also scored as Tampa Bay won for only the second time in nine games.
“We simplified our game is what we did,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “We skated. We’ve had a bad habit of trying to place the puck in the net. … There’s always a better play to be made. We shot the puck a lot more tonight. We played all three zones as five. That really helped our attack and helped us.”
“It’s never a perfect game but we made some strides tonight. There’s going to be things we can work on and adjust to. We’re not going to score five with an empty-net [goal]. We gave up some chances and [Bishop] was huge at key times in the game. Everybody did their job. Everybody chipped in. Overall, it’s a satisfying win,” said Lightning forward Brian Boyle.
Lightning forward Ondrej Palat (undisclosed) left in the second period and did not return while forward Nikita Kucherov did not play because of a lower-body injury. Cooper didn’t have an update on either. … Lightning forward Ryan Callahan missed his seventh straight game because of a lower-body injury.
