Whatever ails the Vancouver Canucks, it’s always a good idea to play the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canucks’ only wins in their past six games are against the Lightning. A shorthanded Bolts team minus Ryan Callahan, Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov established a second period lead on the road but let it dwindle away into a 4-2 loss. In eight days the Bolts have lost four points to the lowly Canucks.

Victor Hedman scored at 6:31 of the first period to give Tampa Bay the lead. Hedman’s sixth goal was assisted by Valtteri Filppula and Brian Boyle.

Lightning forward Cory Conacher tied the game at 2-2 on a power play, set up by Jonathan Drouin 3:53 into the third period. For Conacher, it was his first NHL goal since Oct. 11, 2014. The Cunucks’ Bo Horvat put Vancouver back ahead after Markus Granlund‘s dump-in attempt hit Eriksson’s stick at the blue line and bounced toward the net. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy kicked the rebound right to Horvat, who sent a quick shot over Vasilevskiy’s shoulder.

Horvat then had an assist on Alexandre Burrows‘ goal into an empty net with 46.4 seconds left for the Canucks (13-16-2), who ended a three-game losing streak.

“In the end, it’s a tough game not to get points out of, that’s for sure,” coach Jon Cooper said.
