OK, let’s try this again.
After owning the Mariners last year (14-5), the season series with Seattle got off to a rough start last night thanks to Scot Shields forgetting that first base isn’t located in the front row of the right-field stands. The good news tonight is that one of the “real” Angel starters, Jered Weaver, will be toeing the rubber. The even better news is that we won’t have to watch a contrived “welcome back” entrance for Ken Griffey Jr. this time (note to Seattle, try only welcoming back players who are still good).
One pre-game story of note, the Angels demoted Reggie Willits to AAA and called up Rafael Rodriguez. Rodriguez may not be up for long but is around to provide depth with Darren Oliver likely headed for the rotation and Scot Shields possibly not available after last night’s adventure. Meanwhile, Reggie Willits gets hosed again without getting a shot to throw his hat in the ring for starting left fielder along with Rivera and Matthews.
Predictions:
- Weaver goes a solid seven innings but induces multiple minor heart attacks with a series of flyball outs to the warning track. Torii Hunter then makes Weaver buy him dinner after the game.
- Howie Kendrick and Kendry Morales both step up their game and combine to leave only five runners on base (rather than eight last night).
- Justin Speier makes an appearance, which can only mean the Angels will be winning big.
As always, leave a comment and follow along with this post during the game.
