Gamecocks 2011 Spring Practice Report: Day Three

The University of South Carolina football team held their third practice but his involved full pads which was a slight change from Day One and Day Two.  Progression continues in getting the club ready for the fall season, here is a quick rundown of some of the happenings today:

–A pleasant sight is the Gamecocks secondary really having a strong start to Spring ball.  Not sure if this is due to new quaterbacks or just really strong secondary play.  —Jimmy Legree and DJ Swearinger are really looking sharp.
–Vic Hampton returned to practice today after missing the first two, should help DB unit but did not look sharp.
–DB unit is a deep unit with loads of talent as Corey Addison and Golighty got some reps today.
–Kenny Miles and Eric Baker continued to get the bulk of reps at running back.  Don’t worry about Marcus Lattimore as he is the #1 and did some special things out there especially in the passing game.
–Martay Mattox got a lot of reps at safety and is stepping up to position himself for playing time.
–DeMario Jeffery got reps at linebacker and did really well.
–Tight End Justice Cunningham did not practice.
–Corey Simmons got a look at TE but not sold about his use there.
–Connor Shaw had his moments and seemed a bit better but he has ways to go.
–Area to work on is behind the LB corp as it seemed that spot was open all day.  The defense seemed a bit slower in their reaction time and had quite a few dropped INTs.  But I tell myself it is spring ball.

Milbrook (Raleigh, N.C.) five-star RB Keith Marshall and St. Andrews Episcopal (Austin, TX) QB Preston Dewey attended practice today.
