Gamecocks Bowl Talk After SEC Championship

The South Carolina Gamecocks lost to the Auburn Tigers, 56-17.  That dashed the Sugar Bowl option for USC.  Now it seems the likely bowl destination will be either the Outback Bowl or the Chick-fil-a Bowl for South Carolina.

According to Chris Low of ESPN, the Outback Bowl officials seem to be leaning towards taking the Florida Gators now.  This would send USC back to Atlanta to take part in the Chick-fil-a Bowl.

It would not be surprising to see the Outback go the way of the Gators as the last trip to Tampa for us in Gamecock Nation was not so pleasant.  Combine that experience, poor showing in ticket sales last time SC was there, the economy and the turn out (disappointment) for the SEC Championship game, then UF would prove a better option for money reasons.  Keep in mind bowls are about money.  Per SEC bowl agreements, the Gamecocks as a participant in the SEC championship game isn’t allowed to fall lower in the bowl pecking order than the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

So it sounds like that the Gamecocks will play the loser of the FSU vs. VT game on Dec. 31st in the Dome at 7:30pm in the “Eat More Chicken” Bowl.  Oh, that means the ‘Noles vs. the ‘Cocks and free chicken nuggets.  If Outback does choose SC then likely opponent is either Iowa or Penn State.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl will announce its SEC selection Dec. 5, as will all bowls.  Keep a eye on what the Outback does in their choice but seems safe to pack again for “Dome” weather.
