Well, the sun came up the day after South Carolina lost to Georgia. Before we give a opinion after we had a chance to sleep on the defeat, here are the highlights of the UGa win:
As you see, the Gamecocks got beat. Is it the end of the college football world…no. USC must improve both on-the-field of play and in the coaching style. South Carolina can not expect anyone to roll over for them just because we have Coach Spurrier, a guy named Clowney and a preseason Top 10 ranking. This is SEC football kids and somehow I feel that aspect was lost with some. Wins must be earned and fundamental football must be executed at all times.
We should have known UGa would be hungry in this game, we should have known they would gameplan away from Clowney, we should have known they would run and run some more, we should have known Murray would play with a chip on his shoulder. All this, yet we still felt we could just line up on defense and expect UGa to not execute. Our defense did not step up and we had some offensive blunders. So the result is a loss.
Now, let's put our bandaid on and prepare for Vandy. Plenty of season to go. All the goals are still within reach. This loss needs to be spun into a good thing. Call it a wake up call that the Gamecocks need to be Fighting Gamecocks. I still believe this is one of the most talented teams ever in Columbia but talent alone does not win games. It is about playing hard every snap, doing the little things, staying positive and executing the assignments.
Ladies and Gents….the Gamecocks are 1-1. There are 10 games left. It ain't over. This team has the tools to make this a special season and it begins today with righting the attitude and commiting to not letting another team out-play them.
