Gamecocks Football: Holloman Back with Team

South Carolina’s DeVonte Holloman is back with team according to the University.

If you recall, Holloman was charged with DUI in Columbia, S.C. recently.  Holloman had his first court appearance this past Monday and the result of this apperance was that Holloman requested a jury trial.  No trial date has been set for this case.

The reason this is of interest is due to the University policy that once a player is arrested, they are suspended from team activity.  USC football coach Steve Spurrier made a comment at the recent SEC Media Days that made mention that safety DeVonte Holloman was back working out with the team.

USC sports information director Steve Fink was forced to expand on Spurrier’s comments after SEC Media Days.  Fink noted that Holloman had met with USC athletics director Eric Hyman and the decision was made to allow Holloman to resume team activities but could not clarify the suspension status.

Holloman, a two-year contributor in the defensive backfield for the Gamecocks, finished the 2010 season with 69 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble while appearing in all 14 of the Gamecocks games.  Having him back with the team is a good thing.  Let’s hope the lesson has been learned.
