World, meet Perry Orth. The ‘new’ back-up quarterback at the University of South Carolina per Coach Steve Spurrier for the Gamecocks football team.
Yesterday, the ol’ HBC made the declaration that Orth is the man behind starter Dylan Thompson. Is this news? Well, for many it is as most do not know Orth and his potential. He was a walk-on in 2013 and has not seen playing time outside practice.
For those close to the program, Orth is that “mystical” walk-on that Spurrier has been talking about for some time now and had a good high school football career. In the scrimmage, Orth completed 6-of-13 passes for 89 yards and an interception. Not stellar but also not shabby.
Now the question, is Orth a legit No. 2 or is this motivation from Spurrier to get the other quarterbacks to step-up? Time will tell but don’t be surprised if Orth gets the nod coming out of Spring ball.
