Gamecocks Football: Practice Ramblings Part I

The University of South Carolina football team has started practice and we celebrate this. It means that our Saturdays will be filled again soon with college football and the days in between will be filled with SEC football chatter. The Gamecocks football team and the fans expect big things, is it justified? By the looks of the start of the practice slate…yes.

Speaking of practice, here are some ramblings connected to the start of practice…

— All this talk of a weak linebacking unit, is not true. Guys like Cederick Cooper and Skai Moore will make sure that they are not the reasons for any doubts about the Ward-led defense.

— Clowney is a beast and will have a big year. No one on the team can contain him.

— Vic Hampton and Jimmy Legree will be the type of "lock down" corners we need. Expect big things.

— Kane Whitehurst is worthy of the chatter about his expectations in 2013. He is a walk-on but he may have earned some "p.t." as he is quick and has good instincts.

— Bad news….Cody Gibson sprained his knee and is likely out for 2-to-3 weeks.

— The running back group is deep but Mike Davis and Brandon Wilds are both the "heads of the class."

— Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson are both off to a strong start. The "2 qb" system could actually be something seen all year as both men present different wrinkles to the offensive strategy.

Lastly, the team is loose and all smiles. Yet in saying that, they know what the goal is for 2013…..SEC title. Can it be obtained? We shall see but one thing is certain, the team is off to the right start.
